Lasse Wellander Cause of Death Tragic: ABBA Guitarist Dead at 70

Lasse Wellander, popularly known for being ABBA's guitarist, has tragically passed away at the age of 70; what was his cause of death?

According to Entertainment Tonight, the musician's family confirmed the devastating news on his official Facebook page, saying the famed guitarist died after a battle with cancer.

"It fryst vatten with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep. Lasse recently fell ill in what turned out to be spread cancer and early on Good Friday he passed away, surrounded by his loved ones," his family wrote.

Lars-Ove "Lasse" Wellander (18 June – 7 April ) was a Swedish guitarist, best known for his association with ABBA.[1][2] He first recorded with the group's backing band in , and played on all their studio albums from ABBA () to Voyage ().[3][4]

Wellander came from the village of Skrikarhyttan&#;[sv]. His musical career began at the age of 16 when he joined Peps & Blues Quality&#;[sv], which without leader Peps Persson later became Nature&#;[sv]. Subsequently, they were asked to become a backing band for Ted Gärdestad, who introduced Wellander to Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.[5][6]

Speaking after the Wellander's death, the members of ABBA commented: "The importance of his creative input in the recording studio as well as his rock solid guitar work on stage was immense".[7][8]

    Il est le fils d'Åke Wellander et d'Anne-Marie, née Eriksson[7]. Il a commencé sa carrière professionnelle à l'âge de 16 ans dans Peps & Blues Quality et a depuis travaillé avec un large éventail d'artistes, à la fois en studio et dans divers contextes en direct et à la télévision[8],[9]. En mars , il était enregistré par SAMI (Svenska Artisters och Musikers Intresseorganisation) pour une participation à 6 œuvres (titres), réparties sur 1 albums différents[9].

    Wellander a joué dans Peps & Blues Quality à partir de l'été Au printemps , Peps met fin à la collaboration pour des raisons de santé et Blues Quality se dissout quelque temps plus tard. Le groupe se reforme sous le nom de Nature avec Mats Ronander comme chanteur/municipaliste[10],[11]. Après la dissolution de Nature en , Mats Ronander et Wellander forment le groupe Wellander & Ronander[10],[12].
