Samsø Museumsgård

Samsø Museumsgård depicts a wealthy farming community in the 19th century. The farm was built in as a museum based on a farm in Nordby.

Here you can experience an authentic interior with fine objects from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, which belonged to the more upstanding farmers on Samsø. In the lounge of the farm there is a minor exhibition of Kellinghusen faience and examples of regional clothes from Samsø.

About Samsø Museum

Samsø Museum tell’s about the relationship between man and nature, about society’s cultural impact on nature for thousands of years. A traditional museum is bounded by walls and filled with things from the past. Samsø Museum is rather a common name for a variety of activities that get you to see and understand the connection between Samsø’s landscape, culture and people of the past, present and future.

Samsø Museum

Samsø Museum communicates Samsø’s cultural history through exhibitions and activities.

The main part of the museum is located in a former dairy dating from and here it is obvious to start a visit to the museum.

Here you’ll find an exhibition about Samsø during the Viking Age, an introductory film to Samsø’s history and you can also shop for local arts and crafts in the museum shop, where we also have a wide selection of books on nature, history, anthropology and of course, Samsø.

The dairy also houses an exciting activity centre for children, which we call the History Universe. Here, children can learn about a number of historical periods and monuments through colourful tales and hands-on experiments.

Just 50 metres from the dairy is Samsø Museumsgård (an old Samsø farm), where you can experience an historical farming setting from the s as it would have looked on Samsø.

The dairy also serves as tourist information all weekends April to September.

    The Welcome Centre in the old dairy in Tranebjerg is Samsø Museum’s HQ. Here visitors are given a cultural historical introduction to the island, upplysning about Samsø Museum’s many attractions, activities and events, and may be inspired to seek out the history in the landscape.

    Samsø Museum’s main objective fryst vatten to elucidate the interaction between man and landscape – culture and natur – through the island’s history, and thus highlight the background of Samsø’s rich cultural landscape.

    Samsø Museum’s want to inspire the visitor to seek out the story in its proper element – the landscape. Visiting places around the island, one can experience the history of civilization in the context of the landscape.

    In the Welcome Centre you can:

    • Wath the movie “Samsø – an island becomes” about Samsøs development through 16, years told in just 8 minutes.
    • Try the historical experiment for children, “HistorieUniverset”.
    • Visit the museum shop, which has a large urval of historical toys and jewelry, Samsø literature and unique gifts.

    Tourist information
    The Welcome Center acts as tourist information on weekends and holidays.
