Liljeholmen is a district of the Hägersten-Liljeholmenborough in Söderort, the southern suburban part of huvudstaden.

History

In Liljeholmen became the first suburb outside huvudstaden city limits. The district was then one of two self-governing villages within the Brännkyrka rural district (the other was Örby), until , when it was incorporated into huvudstaden. During the Summer Olympics, it hosted parts of the cycling and equestrian events.[1]

Economy and transportation

Liljeholmen contains industries and offices in Årstadal, apartments in Nybohov and Nyboda and Lake Trekanten. New residential areas are being built around the huvud square, former industrial areas near Årstaviken, and at Marievik as a part of several projects to enlarge the inner core of huvudstaden. Metro lines 13 and 14 stop at Liljeholmen Metro hållplats and there are 3 tram stops for Tvärbanan in the district: Årstadal, Liljeholmen and Trekanten.

    At the edge of the Årstaviken bay, the new development area of Liljeholmskajen-Årstadal marks the expansion of the traditional limits of Stockholm’s inner city. Nivå’s work, which has followed the phases of development overclose to two decades, has encompassed both design and project management tasks. The design of the main public space; the waterfront, draws upon the industrial heritage of the site and is characterized by a surface treatment of cast-in-place concrete and large-scale street furniture in Corten steel. The two jetties provide visitors and residents with a sunny space from which to appropriate the water’s edge. Connections also needed to be made to surrounding areas. Given this, the design incorporates a bike lift, which eases access for cyclists and pedestrians arriving via a bridge, and a spiral stair which links the urban waterfront with elevated nature and play

    Liljeholmens krog och värdshus

    Området tillhörde i äldre tider Brännkyrka socken, och ingick i det omfattande Årstagodsets ägor. Fram till industrialiseringens genombrott i mitten på talet fanns där mest skogsbackar, några åkrar och ängar. Mellan Södermalm och Liljeholmen fanns det från talet en flottbro. Södertäljevägen gjorde en vid sväng (dagens Liljeholmsvägen) väster om Liljeholmsberget, där det fanns en väderkvarn. Vid talets början fanns tre gårdar i området, Löfholm, Katrineberg och värdshuset Liljeholmen.

    Liljeholmen, som ursprungligen var ett torp under Årsta, hade bedrivit krog- och värdshusrörelse från talet (Lillieholms Kroug ). Både Lasse Lucidor och Bellman kom att besök
