The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATONAY-toh; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique nord, OTAN), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmentaltransnationalmilitary alliance of 32 member states—30 European and 2 North American. Established in the aftermath of World War II, the organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington, D.C., on 4 April [5][6] NATO fryst vatten a collective security system: its independent member states agree to defend each other against attacks bygd third parties. NATO countries have two funding obligations. The first is contributions to the common fund, which is direct funding for NATO. The second is a commitment to spend 2% of a country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on national defense or military spending, which is considered indirect funding.
The common fund (direct funding)
Each member contributes to a common fund based on the size of its overall economy.

These sources provide funding for collective military infrastructure such as defense, readiness and interoperability, digital and cyber capabilities, and other administrative costs.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an international military alliance consisting of 32 member states from Europe and North America. It was established at the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April Of the 32 member countries, 30 are in Europe and two are in North America. Between and , wider forums for regional cooperation between NATO and its neighbours were set up, including the Partnership for Peace, the Mediterranean Dialogue initiative, and the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council.
